Stress-free walks is a recipe. Miss out one ingredient and your dog will continue pulling you in every direction. Get all the ingredients right and you’ll bake it to perfection.
If your dog pulls like a steam train then walks might be pretty stressful right now. Maybe you’ve tried loose lead walking training before and it didn’t work?
I’m willing to bet you missed out some vital ingredients.
I really don’t recommend training your dog to walk on a loose lead by drilling exercises over and over again… or stopping every time your dog pulls.
Boring.
Tedious.
Ineffective.
Actually, the stress free dog walks training itself is just one ingredient in the recipe.
When I finally realised that I didn’t only start enjoying calmer walks with my reactive rescue dog Lao…
I didn’t just start going to nicer places.
But because he was more relaxed generally, he was calmer in every single area of life.
I just wish it hadn’t taken me so many years to realise.
The key to a stress-free walk is mixing all the ingredients.
Then you’ll have those nice relaxing walks that you see other people enjoying. Until then, you’ll go round and round in circles, having your shoulder pulled out, or like I did… going home in tears.
It’s because of this approach that I went from returning from walks in tears to actually looking forward to them. And I want you to have that too.
The training’s perfect for dogs that pull on the lead or those who lunge at other dogs. But aside from stress-free walks itself, this will ALSO make your dog more responsive in the long term, so it will help with other things like recall, reactivity and focus around distractions.
You’ll leave with a plan to finally tackle that painful and stressful dog walks problem. And you can start looking forward to calmer, more relaxing walks.
